United States, December 7, 2024. The South American Football Confederation announces that the CONMEBOL Copa América™ trophy has been restored and looks renewed for the 48th edition of the oldest national team tournament in the world.

More than 100 years after the first edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América™, which was played in 1916 in Buenos Aires, the oldest national team trophy on the continent has been taken to its roots.

Over the last few years, the trophy has been modified by adding wooden components to accommodate the badges of the competition’s champions. The making of the original CONMEBOL Copa América trophy was carried out by Casa Escasany to present it at the 1917 South American Championship, a competition that would later be called the Copa América. In 1979, a wooden base was added to add a second row of champion badges, while, in 1995, a third step was added. Since 2004, different replicas of the trophy have been awarded.

“Since I assumed the presidency of CONMEBOL, one of the goals I set was to be able to preserve and exalt the roots of South American football. This year we restored this iconic trophy, which weighs more than 11.85 kilograms and has been an accomplice in great sporting feats in our region. We are convinced that this new edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ will bring joy and unique and exciting moments for our spectators and we will continue writing the legend of the oldest and most emotional national team tournament in the world,” concluded Alejandro Domínguez, President of CONMEBOL.

Soon, a documentary with the history of this restoration will be unveiled on the different CONMEBOL digital platforms.

The 48th edition of the Copa América™ will be held next year, in the United States, being a new race for continental glory. On this occasion, the 10 member teams of CONMEBOL and the six guests from Concacaf will fight to put their names on the restored jewel.
