The Mexican National Team defeats Jamaica in its first match of the Copa América 2024

The tricolor team won in its return to the tournament with a goal from Gerardo Arteaga

The Mexican national team suffered but won. The Tricolor struggled to defeat Jamaica in the Copa América debut and although they added, and Jaime Lozano will be able to calmly work on Wednesday’s game against Venezuela, the Aztec team seems to lose its captain Edson Álvarez due to injury.

Lozano’s team was once again a team poor in ideas for much of the game, and Edson’s injury in the first minutes of the game also helped little.

The outlook for the national team was not very encouraging, arrivals without depth, Santi Giménez lost on the field and Quiñones with more desire than football, so the end of the first half was the best thing that could happen to them.
In the locker room Jaime rearranged the pieces, Romo who came in to replace Edson had a hard time getting along with his teammates and as the minutes passed he took over the midfield.

Jamaica gave Mexico a scare at the start of the second half, scoring a goal that, fortunately for the poor defense, was disallowed due to offside by Michail Antonio.

That goal by the Caribbean woke up Mexico and Lozano, who made changes to make his team look better and that was the case with the additions of Carlos Rodríguez and Guillermo Martínez.

At 69′ the Tricolor score came, Gerardo Arteaga hit the ball with all his strength to send it into the Jamaican goal and give peace of mind to the National Team that did very little in the game.

The victory gives greater calm to Jaime Lozano, who without Edson Álvarez will have to recompose this team that does not seem to have many ideas on the field, now it is Venezuela’s turn in Los Angeles to try to secure first place and avoid the quarterfinals. Lionel Messi’s fearsome Argentina.
