The Tricolor played a good game against Ecuador but it was not enough for them to advance to the Quarterfinals.

The Mexican National Team failed again with Jaime Lozano, first it was in Concacaf in the Nations League and now in the Copa América 2024 when they were eliminated in the Group Stage after a goalless draw with Ecuador in Phoenix, Arizona, and they had to win to stay alive in the tournament.
The Tricolor improved a lot in terms of system and personality, even in the second half Lozano was encouraged to play with up to two center forwards, but it was not enough for him to win a game that was vital for his process.
Johan Vásquez became a leader of the team without wearing the captain’s badge, trying to encourage his teammates to achieve the result. In the first half they failed to reach Mexico, Ecuador gave them all the responsibility of possession but they locked themselves in quite well at the back, understanding that Mexico was obliged because a tie helped them advance.
The best side of the Tricolor came in the second half, Chino Huerta became the main offensive playmaker, but this team does not have a goal, and that was its sin in the tournament. The Mexican National Team tried by all means to score the goal that would qualify them, but when a team simply does not have luck or fine aim, it is difficult for them to do anything.
Desperation led Jaime Lozano to play with two forwards, bringing in Memote Martínez to try to do something, but neither he nor Santi Giménez had dangerous plays. In the end Ecuador did its thing, it made time to make the Mexicans desperate and they succeeded both on the field and in the stands because in the last minutes the homophobic cry appeared.
In the last play there was a last hope for Mexico, but the VAR denied them the possibility by removing a penalty that had been wrongly indicated by the Memote and thus ended a story that was a nightmare for Mexico.
