Minnesota United achieves narrow 2-1 victory over Atlanta United

The Mercedes-Benz Stadium was the scene of an intense clash between Atlanta and Minnesota for week 11, in which the visiting team won by 2 to 1. In the 8th minute of the second half, Kervin Arriaga scored the first goal after a header. Later, Tani Oluwaseyi scored the second through a great play (14′ of the same stage). Although Atlanta United tried to change the dynamic of the game, they only managed to break the rival net once with Saba Lobjanidze, in the 36th minute of the same half, and a shot.

A great play by Minnesota, 8 minutes into the second half, was the one that moved the scoreboard thanks to Kervin Arriaga. After receiving a corner from the left by Joseph Rosales, the defender gained position in the large area, finished with a header and the ball went into the goalkeeper’s left post.

Atlanta United forward Georgios Giakoumakis had a chance to tie the game, but was denied by the post in the 90th minute of the second half.

Kervin Arriaga emerged as the most outstanding player of the game. The Minnesota United defender was important for scoring 1 goal and taking 5 balls out of the danger area.

Tani Oluwaseyi also stood out at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Minnesota United attacker scored 1 goal and shot into the opponent’s goal 3 times.

It was a game with many frictions due to infractions committed in the open field. There were 2 reprimands: Luis Abram and Kervin Arriaga.

Atlanta coach Gonzalo Pineda proposed a 4-5-1 formation with Brad Guzan in goal; Brooks Lennon, Noah Cobb, Luis Abram and Caleb Wiley on the defensive line; Bartosz Slisz, Tristan Muyumba, Edwin Mosquera, Thiago Almada and Saba Lobjanidze in the middle; and Georgios Giakoumakis in attack.

For its part, Eric Ramsay’s team took the field with a 5-3-2 formation with Dayne St. Clair between the three sticks; DJ Taylor, Kervin Arriaga, Michael Boxall, Miguel Tapias and Devin Padelford in defense; Robin Lod, Wil Trapp and Joseph Rosales in the midfield; and Jeong Sangbin and Tani Oluwaseyi up front.

Referee Guido Gonzales Jr. was in charge of supervising the game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

On the next date, Atlanta will face DC United at home, while Minnesota will not play and will enjoy its day off.
